The Theory of Coddiwomple

Have you done your 5 Year Plan yet? Where do you want to be in 10 years? What do you want to be when you grow up? Common enough questions but what if you don’t know where you want to be even one year from now? Or what if you can’t even imagine what you are capable of achieving. And what about those opportunities that might be right around the next corner? Taking a word from olde English slang, Nancy Osborne will show you another way to live your amazing life.

(based on Nancy's amazing Tedx Talk in Orillia!)

From Afghanistan to New York!  Nancy Osborne has more than 30 years of experience as a speaker and workshop facilitator presenting to audiences around the globe.

In 1975, at the age of 17, Nancy joined the Canadian Forces as a Private and was among the first few women in a previously male-only branch. Thus began 40 plus years of being the first – and often – the only woman in some of the biggest boys’ clubs in the world. After 20 years of breaking through the cement ceiling in the military, she retired as a Major.

Recruited by the United Nations as one of the first women to provide risk analysis and access negotiations for humanitarian operations in some of the most dangerous and culturally misogynistic places in the world, Nancy has worked in over 40 countries including Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and East Timor. Over the years, Nancy has developed collaborative tactics to overcome the unique challenges that confront women everywhere and especially in leadership and management positions.

Before retiring from the United Nations, Nancy took the lead to customize and provide security training workshops specifically for women across more than 20 countries. She recognized that the women wanted a holistic approach to the training including the psychological and emotional aspects that impacted their lives every day. The demand for these workshops grew exponentially and before retiring, Nancy trained 12 workshop facilitators to help the UN keep up with the demand.

After Nancy retired to her home in Muskoka in 2016, she realized that the skills and tactics she has developed over the years are just as relevant to women here in Canada and so she founded I Got This, as an umbrella for her workshops and speaking. She draws on her experiences and stories to inspire others to make their presence undeniable and their voices resonate.
